Javier’s Amazing Journey

As a Southern Medical University (SMU) college student in Dallas, 21 year old, Javier was getting prepared for his college graduation in the upcoming months. His aspirations were to be in the film making industry and possibly starting up his own independent production company. However, Javier's aspirations were put on temporary hold due to suddenly falling ill on his 22nd birthday.

Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a birthday celebration turned into an unexpected visit to the emergency room at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Following blood tests, Javier was seen by transplant surgeon, Alejandro Mejia, MD, who is on the medical staff at Methodist Health System and The Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas. Within seconds of Dr. Mejia reviewing the lab results, he revealed the shocking news to Javier that he was in liver failure and was in need of a liver transplant. Upon being placed on the organ transplant list, Javier received his new liver.

His new lease on life enabled him to graduate from college, marry his high school sweetheart and become a father.
