Donate Life Month 2025

Each year in April, we celebrate National Donate Life Month, an initiative to honor those who have donated organs and bring awareness to the life-saving gift of organ donation. With events and activities scheduled all month long to show our support, it was a great honor to host and partake in these meaningful moments.

Flag Raising Ceremonies

We hosted our 4th annual Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony at not one, but two hospital campuses this year. Alongside Southwest Transplant Alliance, Methodist Dallas Medical Center and Methodist Charlton Medical Center invited the community to join these ceremonies, which serve as a powerful symbol of hope, unity and gratitude. This event honors the selfless gift of organ donation and raises awareness about its life-saving impact.

As a leading donor and transplant hospital, Methodist Dallas is committed to paying tribute to the life-saving legacy of donors and showing reverence for the gift of life.

During the event, a recently transplanted father and his son, who was his donor, shared their powerful story. Guests also heard messages from Methodist Dallas Medical Center President, John Phillips as well as Southwest Transplant Alliance President & CEO, Brad Adams. At the end of the ceremony, guests were treated to a performance by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Awareness Fridays

Every Friday in April we set up a display in the main lobby of Methodist Dallas and passed out information about organ donation and how to become registered. We invited a popcorn and cotton candy maker to set up alongside our displays and offered free treats. We also created a DIY pen-making station that allowed people to decorate their own uniquely designed pens with blue and green beads.

Hope Starts Here 5k Race

This year marked the third consecutive year that The Transplant Institute at Methodist Dallas served as a sponsor for the Hope Starts Here 5K. The race supports programs offered by the Southwest Transplant Alliance Foundation to provide care for donor and recipient families, encourage organ donation registration, and advance transplant research.

Blue & Green Spirit

Each April, Methodist Dallas Medical Center displays blue and green lights each night in support of National Donate Life Month. On Blue & Green Spirit Day, staff throughout the hospital wear blue and green to show their support for organ donation.

Transplant Support Group

We hosted our largest ever Transplant Support Group in April! We invited Southwest Transplant Alliance to share information on their role in the transplant process, such as talking to the donor family and organ procurement. Attendees were given tips and advice about how to write a letter to your donor’s family after transplant.
