Dr. Maisha Barnes completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center Strong Memorial Hospital in New York, then spent a year as a hospitalist attending at Geneva General Hospital and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Geneva, New York. She completed fellowships in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at the University of Minnesota. Active in medical research, Dr. Barnes specializes in the management of nonalcoholic fatty-liver disease; viral hepatitis; cholestatic and autoimmune liver disease; and complications of cirrhosis, including portal hypertension, hepatic encephalopathy, and the medical management of patients pre- and post-liver transplantation. She is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Society of Transplantation, and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

Personal Interests

Outside of medicine, I enjoy music, reading, Latin dancing, performing arts, cooking, and golf.
